Free Range Egg Operation

This has been established for approximately 8 years and sells a unique product under the brand Kimbers Freerange (Gluten Free).

The operation uses gluten free grains (ie sorghum and corn) and sells mainly via one major wholesaler.  Other outlets in local towns and markets also sell the eggs.

The operation consists of:

  • 80 acres of 6ft high chain wire perimeter fencing (approximately 3 kilometres)
  • 20,000 chooks; these are approximately 12,000 layers, 4,000 growers and 4,000 chickens
  • 4 large grower sheds (each is approximately 365 square metres); these are positioned east-west for ventilation, coolness and comfort of the hens.
  • 1 brooder shed of 216 square metres
  • The grower and layer sheds feature:
    • Automatic feed lines
